Presenters:

Dr. Eileen Rakovitch

Dr. Eileen Rakovitch is a Radiation Oncologist and Professor with an active clinical practice and research program focused on breast cancer. The primary goal of her research program is to improve the care and outcomes of women with an early form of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

David Andrews, PhD is a Senior Scientist in Biological Sciences at Sunnybrook Research Institute and Professor of Biochemistry and Medical Biophysics at University of Toronto. His research uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to analyze micrographs of cells to guide early-stage drug discovery and to understand how cancer cells respond to drugs.

Dr. Sten Myrehaug joined the Odette Cancer Program following training at the University of Alberta, University of Toronto and National Cancer Institute, and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology. His clinical interest is the management of central nervous system and gastrointestinal malignancies, with a focus on the use of stereotactic body radiation techniques and radioligand therapy.

Presenters:

Dr. Harindra Wijeysundera is Chief of the Schulich Heart Program, and Head of the Division of Cardiology. He is an interventional cardiologist, senior scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute and an adjunct senior scientist at ICES. His clinical practice focuses on transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and coronary chronic total occlusions. He holds a Canada Research Chair in Structural Heart Disease Policy and Outcomes; his research program focuses on health technology assessments in cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Giuseppe Papia is a member of the Division of Cardiac and Vascular Surgery and the Division of Critical Care Medicine. He joined Sunnybrook’s Board of Directors in June 2019 following his appointment as President, Medical-Dental Midwifery Staff Association. His clinical interests include endovascular interventions for complex peripheral vascular disease, aortic disease and carotid disease. His area of academic interest is in patient safety and quality improvement addressing and optimizing potential gaps in postoperative care of vascular and cardiovascular patients. Dr. Papia is co-chair of the annual Ride for Project Saving LegsTM, which raises funds to further the mission to reduce amputations and improve the lives of patients affected by Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).

Mina Madan, MD, MHS, FRCPC, FSCAI is an interventional cardiologist in the Division of Cardiology, and Medical Director of the Schulich Heart Program’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Her main clinical interest is the management and prevention of coronary artery disease. Her research interests have focused on improving percutaneous coronary interventions using new drugs and devices. Recent projects have focused on secondary prevention involving cholesterol-lowering strategies, and new approaches for smoking cessation. In 2019, Dr. Madan launched the Sunnybrook SCAD Clinic, to coordinate care for survivors of acute myocardial infarction related to spontaneous coronary artery dissection.

In this video, three of Sunnybrook’s leading experts answer commonly asked questions and speak exclusively with members of Sunnybrook’s Kilgour Legacy Society about Brain Health and Wellness, notably in the areas of sleep health, mindfulness, and modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This video was recorded at the Kilgour Legacy Society’s annual event on June 24, 2021.

Speakers

Dr. Brian J. Murray is Head of the Division of Neurology. His research includes neurological aspects of sleep and the relationship between sleep and behaviour. Some clinical conditions include narcolepsy, rapid eye movement sleep behaviour disorder, restless legs syndrome and the effects of sleep and sleep disorders in other medical conditions.

Dr. Steven Selchen’s clinical work focuses on providing integrative approaches to the management of stress, anxiety and mood disorders, and ensuring broad accessibility to evidence-based treatments. His research interests focus on the neuroscience and psychology of reflective capacity and conscious choice.

Jenny Rabin, PhD is a Neuropsychologist, Scientist and Assistant Professor. Her research focuses on two main themes: 1) Identifying risk and protective factors for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias; 2) Developing innovative ways to assess outcomes in neuromodulation trials for difficult-to-treat brain disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, depression, and OCD.
